Red, White & Blue scrap quilt

I think it was at least 3 years ago that I began working on the blocks for this quilt...put it away to work on other projects...took it out again...etc... so I am pleased to say it is finally done!

Each block is "crazy pieced" to a thick foundation fabric...sash allows the seams to lay flat.

Start with an angular center and add alternating light and dark around it.

More of the quilt...

The whole quilt!

I took my rocking chair out to the back yard for some natural light.
Bald eagle print cloth on the back

And a simple label for historical purposes.

Red, White, and Blue Chevron Quilt

I make things for The Ships Project...visit their web page http://www.theshipsproject.com/
Knit hats for the winter and Cool ties (neck-coolers) for summer, and occasionally a quilt. I call this one the Deer Quilt.

This one was a special request,

See the deer and other wild life!

Sometimes I just make one from what I have on hand, or what is donated. My friend, Susan, an experienced Quilter, gave me some squares of cloth she no longer wanted to keep.
These are some of the left over squares!
The original pile was probably enough to make 2 or 3 Twin Quilts.
Susan also introduced me to the concept of "half square triangles".  So I used her squares and tried out her technique and made this quilt.

Another friend, Sharon, is a professional long arm quilter.  She donated her quilting services for soldier care quilts.

Even the back is interesting!

Sharon "fusses" at me if I do not put a label on my quilt!
I have started another quilt using Susan's squares and some white on white prints...taking photos as I sew this time!

Cool Ties...Neck coolers

I make things (from time to time) for a project called the ships project. They send things to sailors and soldiers all over the world. In these hot months the need is for neck coolers, or Cool ties. I was gearing up to make several for this months shipping deadline of July 5..... when an acquaintance of mine said "could I have 36 to send to Greg for his men?"... I did not even know she had relatives in the military! How could I say no?..... so off to the store for 3 more yards of cotton cloth (tan).... oh, and by the way.... can you have them ready for Monday?
So set up the home "sweat shop" and get cranking!!  sorry, no photos of construction. I was under the pressure of a deadline!

Cool ties... at least 36 of them.

A little order please!

All neatly folded, with their care tags taped on. Final count.... 39!

Now I think I will go back to working on a quilt for someone?????

I always make such a mess when I am planning a scraps quilt!

But when it works out, it is worth the mess and the effort!
